How to Create a Perfect Affirmation

Today we’re going to talk about how to create a perfect affirmation, just for you. We’ll cover four main aspects of creating an optimal affirmation that can be used for auto-suggestion, self-hypnosis, or in any way you’d like.

Steps to creating a perfect affirmation:

1) According to the National Guild of Hypnotists (NGH), there are six criteria for self-hypnosis suggestions. We’re going to use these rules for creating an optimal affirmation because we’re creating a statement that can achieve both goals – as an affirmation or as a self-hypnosis suggestion. 

  1. Simple
  2. Positive
  3. Present tense
  4. Believable
  5. Measurable
  6. Carries a reward

2) It’s best to create something with an easy poetic quality, something you can remember easily and repeat often.

3) For simplicity and effectiveness, we’re going to use French psychologist Emile Coué’s (1857-1926) famous affirmation “every day, in every way, I’m getting better and better.” Then we’re going to drop the word “getting” to make it a little simpler and to comply to the NGH’s rule #3.

“Every day, in every way, I am better and better.”

That’s a good go-to affirmation that can be used at any time. Now let’s customize it a bit more.

“Every day, in every way, my health is better and better”

You could substitute “my health” for just about anything that’s relevant for you. 

4) The final aspect of a perfect affirmation is that it contains the most relevant thing you want in your life right now. How do you decide what that is?

What is the thought or feeling that is most bothering you right now? Something you’re committed to improving. 

Now, what’s the opposite of the bothersome thought or feeling? This should be the thought or feeling you’d like to adopt – the optimal outcome. 

Examples:

Problem: Feeling Anxious

Affirmation: “I’m more at ease, every day, as I allow my life to unfold”

Problem: Concerned about egg quality

Affirmation:  “Every day, in every way, my eggs as viable and healthy”

Problem: Low sperm/quality count:

Affirmation: “Every day, in every way, my sperm is healthy and flourishing” 

Problem: Unexplained infertility 

Affirmation: “Every day, in every way, my fertility is better and better”

Problem: Trouble making decisions

Affirmation: “Every day, in every way, I make decisions with trust and ease”

    What is #6 the reward part? Is the reward the positive that you are looking for in your life?

      Blythe – I love your affirmation! If you wanted to make it just a touch stronger, you could drop the word “getting.’ Up to you 🙂 The NGH’s rule #6 just means it has to be something you want – in your case, you want your writing to be better and better.
